Introducing Tom Kimber, District Governor, 201C2, 2019-20

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Tom & Jill Kimber - C2 DG 2019-20 Tom and Jill both grew up in the SA Murray Mallee. They have been married 47 years, have two daughters and two grandchildren. Early in their married life they owned a mixed farm.
As a teenager, Tom joined Rural Youth, holding all committee positions including President. He was a member of both the Zone and State Committees at different times. Tom was also heavily involved in the local community, including as a member of the football and tennis club committees, and as Chairman of the School Council.
In 1990, the Kimber family moved to Hallett Cove, a new start and a different lifestyle. Tom faced the challenge and set about building a career other than farming. He accepted a position in hospitality, and utilised the skills used on the farm in the Maintenance Department for Stamford Hotels. He progressed into the Occupational Health and Safety field and advanced to the role of OHS Manager of Stamford Hotels and Resorts. He worked and studied to gain a Diploma in OH&S, and now works as the WHS Manager at the Adelaide Oval. During this time Tom has been awarded “The Restaurant & Caterers South Australian WHS Manager of the Year” for two consecutive years.
Jill gained employment in the optical industry and learned the skill of manufacturing contact lenses. She was promoted to leading hand before transferring to dispatch as a clerk, where she is still employed today.
In 2010 Tom joined the Hallett Cove and District Lions Club. He enjoyed being involved in the community again, and after 12 months was nominated as First Vice President. The following year he took on President with a vision for the Club to be known in the community. It took him two terms of President to see this happen. Along the way the Club grew from 13 members to 35 members, and the Club formed a partnership with the Council, which gave the Lions Club opportunity to gain the facilities they enjoy today.
