Introducing David Horne Second Vice District Governor, 201C2, 2021-22
David and Melissa live in Mount Barker and have been married since 2013. They share their home with three Siberian Huskies and a French Bulldog. Both have been heavily involved in dog sports since their late teens, competing in conformation, obedience, dry land sledding and weight-pull disciplines and first met during an obedience class.
Professionally, David has been with Australian Hearing Dogs since 2005 when he started as a Kennel Manager. He has since worked through the Organisation as a Hearing Assistance Dog Trainer, Assessor and now Chief Executive Officer. He is a Board Member of Assistance Dogs International Oceania and an accredited Assistance Dog Trainer. Melissa also works within the animal industry as a Veterinary Nurse.
David joined the Lions Club of Mount Barker in 2015 and served the Club as Secretary and Vice President before transferring as Charter President to the Lions Club of Australian Hearing Dogs in 2019. He has served as Zone 5 Chairperson since 2019.
Both David and Melissa are passionate about promoting awareness and supporting people who are Deaf and hard of hearing as well as animal rights.
